History
Personality
+Loyalty Although outwardly cold and intimidating to those who do not know her (her resting bitch face does most of the hard work for her) Bree had great warmth and softness to those who had earned her trust and loyalty and there is no end that she will no go to to achieve their ends. She is not easily swayed from those she had pledged her loyalty to, despite those people being exceptionally few and far between. These are the only people she will never act against. The current list of those she is loyal to is as follows; Orla Rhatigan, Declan Rhatigan.
Bree has been offered bribes, threatened, coerced and challenged many times in her tenure with the Lonely Sidhe and while under Orla's captaincy. Every time that has happened, she has remained by Orla's side as steadfast as she always has been sine she took up the post of first mate and decided she was going to stay.
To Bree, loyalty means that you put the other person's goals and aims above your own even if you don't agree with them. In her relationship with Orla, this had meant that she puts the goals of the Lonely Sidhe first, committing crimes and smuggling contraband across space. She has no hesitation to commit crimes or hurt people if that is what Orla wants her to do. Nothing ranks as highly in her mind as enacting her wife's will. She is outwardly passive and deferent to Orla because of this even if behind closed doors she will gently challenge her if she feels the captain is going down too dangerous a path. But, ultimately, even if she disagrees, Bree would not willingly go against Orla's will.
It was difficult for Bree to be disloyal to her family by leaving their colony when she was a teenager. She assuages her guilt in this by sending them money and highly sanitised versions of what she is doing and does her level best to ensure that they come to no harm from her own actions, hiring private security to make sure that their farm is well looked after and defended. If anything ever did happen to them, she would rampage.
-Ruthless. There are no lengths that Bree will not go to in order to achieve her aims. She takes little pleasure in harming people but that won't stop her. If there is an obstacle in her way she will remove it as swiftly and viciously as the job requires. This includes using her information network to destroy someone's life or livelihood by sending all of their close contacts a laundry list of their deepest and darkest secrets (her preferred method) or simply disposing of someone by beating them into a pulp or shooting them dead. It ranks about the same to her mind. If someone chooses to oppose her, she will give no warning before doing all that she needs to do to move them from her path.
Bree is at her heart, not a good person. She is cynical about the value of human life when compared to her own potential gain or profit. She can be manipulative and cold to those who she doesn't care to help.
This is best demonstrated by her willingness to allow an innocent person to be killed in order to claim the bounty on her own head. There was not a moment of guilt or reconsideration from Bree. It was inconvenient for her to have to stop her operations to deal with the bounty, so, framing someone else for it was the quickest and easiest method of resolving the situation. The other person's safety and wellbeing wasn't even remotely a consideration for her.
-Indifferent Bree has no interest in getting involved with things she doesn't have to or things that don't interest her. The furthering of the human condition and moralism hold no great important in her mind and she is at best a morally grey person. World events will not phase her compared to what is going on within her own world. She wasn't too upset at Enzo tricking her parents into hiring him as he had something useful to offer her in return - in the same vein of not caring for other people, she doesn't particularly care where they come from or their pasts if it might make them a valuable or useful person to her.
It is because of this indifference that Bree had been able to succeed in her career as a space pirate. She is above the law because she doesn't care about the law, that's a set of rules for people who are too scared to seize their own destiny. Bree doesn't waste her time worrying about what others might think of her actions. The only people who might be an exception to this are her parents, who she prefers not to know of her exploits. Otherwise, the person she cares about most in the universe is one of the most vicious and violent. This is just a part of their way of life. Bree puts herself and those she cares about far above anyone else, regardless of the suffering she might cause in the process.
-Opportunist Before she joined the Lonely Sidhe and met Orla, Bree jumped from ship to ship and crew to crew depending on what was readily available to her at the time. Whatever best offer came in, she would jump for in the name of personal gain. Likewise, she would leverage information and secrets she had gained from her contacts in order to extort people for goods or bigger better secrets. While not a risk-chaser, Bree is skilled in picking up threads of opportunity and making the most of them before slinking back into the shadows before anyone can guess that she has entirely swindled them. This includes turning in other criminals for bounties, profiteering, stockpiling goods and creating whisper campaigns to destroy people.
Bree believes that nothing in life is handed to people who are polite and stay in the lines of society. This is why she is unafraid of her career as a smuggler - she left home at nineteen because she knew that unless she took the opportunity with both hands she was going to end up stuck on her parent's colony for the rest of her life. This has led her into some exceptionally dangerous situations (see; mafia putting out a bounty on her) and had her working with some very dangerous people (see; her wife) but ultimately, Bree always seemed to come out the better, by hook or by crook.
Breeana "Bree" Shannon was born on a high gravity colony planet to a family that bred and sold cattle for slaughter. She was the oldest child of three. It was a pleasant but exceedingly rural life for the age of space travel. She was a smart kid who grew up healthy and hale, performing well at school but showed little desire to apply herself to farming techniques or animal husbandry. Being from a high grav colony meant that she grew up with dense muscle and was exceptionally strong for a human.
While very close to her family, Bree rankled for something more out of life than the rural life she had grown up with and started to look for a way off her home planet and into space where she felt she belonged for a more exciting life. When she was seventeen, her family hired a retired spacer to come and help them on the farm as a physical labourer called Enzo. He had been a criminal most of his life and had a talent for gathering secrets for extortion. Bree soon realised he wasn't as capable a farmhand as he had led her parent to believe and she quickly confronted him on this. In exchange for Bree promising to help him with the heavy farm work, he taught her the trade of listening and observing people, making assessments about their weaknesses and character, bribing and extortion. Everything a sharp young mind such as hers would need if she intended on making a living as a spacer.
Bree quickly showed a talent for assessing people and fighting. Egged on by Enzo, she practiced in any spare hours that she had, gathering a web of information and secrets held by the people in their small colony.
At nineteen, she wound up having a fight with her parents about the future of the family farm. They had asked her to take a larger role in the day to day operations; something that Bree desperately didn't want to do. What started as a normal family dinner ended in Bree packing her bags and making a break for it the very same evening. She hitched a ride on the first shuttle she could find leaving her planet and took what meagre credits she had saved to gain access to a passenger ship to get herself far away from home. She left but one short note apologising to her family that she had chosen to leave and telling them it wasn't a reflection on how much she loved them, only on how much she didn't want to live the life they had chosen.
The next decade of Bree's life was spent on a multitude of spaceships, fitting in as a relief crewman where she could and taking protection racket work where she couldn't. She managed to eke out a reasonable living by using her fists, might and overall terrifying guard dog persona. Bree grew from strength to strength. On every ship that she visited, she made sure to ingratiate herself with those with the power and information streams, showing herself to be highly capable and exceptionally ruthless in carrying out her missions. She made a point to learn as many roles on a ship as she was able, making it easier for her to slip into any role that a captain might need of her and Bree was regarded as a capable bosun. Throughout the years she would often send home the profits she could spare back to her family with a highly sanitised version of her exploits. Bree chose not to return home at any point during that period of time, more confident she could control the narrative of her adventures from afar.
There were more than a few brushes with the law in that time but through sheer luck or beating anyone into a pulp who would look at her funny, Bree managed to evade capture. There was a notable incident where a hefty bounty was put on her head after being sent to shake down a mafia owned business. To circumvent this, Bree turned in an innocent party on one of the ships she was leaving, knocking them out and sending them on a shuttle towards a law cruiser with modified identification chips and tags that would falsely ID them as Breeana Shannon. She later heard they had been killed in cold blood to send a message and felt confident she had made the correct decision not to go and sort the matter out herself.
It was towards the end of her twenties that Bree heard that the Rhatigans - a pair of siblings, infamous in criminal circles for being excellent at their craft - were looking for crew members to join them and she decided she would go and see what the fuss was about, to see whether the captain measured up to her reputation. As it happened, from the moment she met Captain Orla and her brother, Bree was delighted at what she found. Orla measured up to her expectations and more. Bree spent the entire interview flirting relentlessly with Orla, finding every way that she could to try and get the fearsome pirate to crack a smile - puns, jokes, filthy humour, poking fun at her. Thankfully, the first mate (Kerry, Orla's brother) was gleeful at Bree's cheek and convinced Orla to hire her. It didn't hurt that she came highly recommended either.
At first, Bree came onto the crew of the Lonely Sidhe intending on making some good credits to send back to her family and take advantage of the information she could gather while under Captain Orla's command. For the first few months, she made the most of working with a crew that truly knew what they were doing; waiting, watching and learning about the ties that kept them working as a cohesive unit. She acted as the resident bodyguard for Orla, providing the Big Scary Guard act that she did so very well at that point.
It was much to her surprise that one night, after months of flirting and pointed comments at Orla that she had seemed to almost entirely ignore, the captain crawled into her bed one night. ("So are we going to pretend the poor blind girl got confused and ended up in the wrong quarters there, Cap?" "You'd better fucking not.") While it was very much not in her job description, Bree was more than happy to provide some much-needed relief. She had noted from their very first meeting that Orla was the sort of person who needed somewhere she could decompress and not be in charge and behind closed doors, Bree stepped into that role as their encounters became a regular thing. A few months later, Orla's brother left the crew to settle down with his partner and the position of the first mate became available.
Bree had grown comfortable on the Lonely Sidhe and despite her original intentions of making her money, learning what she could and running, she found herself wanting to stay with them thanks to some uncomfortable developing feelings for Orla. Bree had never been one to stand back from what made her uncomfortable so she knew she needed to stay to understand the root cause of them. The crew were quickly entering Bree's inner circle of trust and she started to let her guard down around them in a way she simply hadn't with other crews. She was making genuine connections with them and focusing her efforts on the collective rather than herself and her family. That would soon be tested as one of the members of the crew attempted to start a mutiny.
The mutiny was dealt with swiftly and viciously by the captain, with the mutineer being tortured and held, his body eventually jettisoned out of an airlock. Two of his cousins went missing, his sister lost an eye and his widow was injured so severely she walked with a limp from thereon. Bree spent the whole time guarding the mutineer's quarters and listening to the sounds of his torture, accompanying the captain where she was asked to and never for a moment stepping out of line. Bree had known for a long time that a tiny blind spacer did not get to the position that Orla was in without having a vicious streak and the willingness to act on it but seeing it up close and in person was keen reinforcement of why Orla was not to be fucked with or fucked over.
One evening, in the middle of torturing the mutineer, Orla came to Bree's quarters and she could feel the trust that she had been slowly eking out of Orla starting to slip away. Not wanting to lose what she had stayed on the ship for, Bree did something she didn't often; she offered information about herself. ("Hey, if you ever wanted to kill Uncle Edgar, you'd probably be doing the whole family a favour. He's a drunk. You could find him..." "Then there's my Mom and Pops. They're still on Silitron Colony. Pops has a shotgun but he doesn't even have any bullets in it.") She explained her entire family tree, where to find them, and what defences they were likely to have. It was a rare act of vulnerability; explaining exactly to Orla - who knew exactly how loyal Bree was to her family above all else - who and how to kill to keep her in line if she ever feared a mutiny from Bree. For all she had the physical might and prowess to do it, she would never want to, Bree knew at that point that she would rather be by Orla's side and a foot behind her, watching the fierce little thing do what she did best and be the foundation her empire was built on.
For a while, Bree felt their dynamic shift, having given up more than she had gotten and left her a little unsteady in where they sat. Until Orla arranged for them to spend some time visiting her family, both virtually and in-person, allowing Orla to see Bree's face for the first time. It was more to Bree's (internal) surprise that Orla introduced her as her girlfriend to her family and she realised that this was a turnabout for the vulnerability that she had shown during Rich's failed mutiny.
It took a few years for Bree to propose to Orla, content to support and love her in private and act as her guard in public, never speaking and never offering a contrasting opinion to what her partner might have where others could hear. Privately there were many terse conversations about Orla taking unnecessary risks and Bree threw herself into risk mitigation where she could find it, using the information network she had built up over the years to find low-risk jobs where she could. They married roughly three years after the first interview that had brought Bree onto the ship and the Rhatigan Criminals now referred to the wives rather than the siblings as it once had as Bree took her name. It had the benefit of ensuring people knew Orla was in charge and kept her family's name out of Bree's trouble.
A few years after, Bree had hit her mid-thirties and despite their dangerous lifestyle, she knew that she wanted children. As it was likely to be the only time that Orla was going to be able to attempt to carry their child, it was decided she would make the first attempt at it. During that time, Bree was beside herself in her attempts to minimise Orla's risk-taking behaviour (ineffective, she managed to get injured early into her pregnancy) and safety proof the ship where she could (slightly more effective, but it was still a space pirate ship). The crew were happy for their captain and first mate and Bree was able to convince most of them to take moderately more care without insulting Orla's control or command. Eventually, when Orla neared the end of her pregnancy, the pair of them moved to Orla's parent's ship for better medical facilities and left the Lonely Sidhe in the crew's capable hands.
At Bree's current canon point, her son Declan was born seven months ago and she is deep in the newborn haze. Nothing has ever been better for her, she had her fearsome wife, her beautiful baby boy, and her family scattered to the stars and safe. The call had gone out for the crew to reassemble as Orla was feeling the itch to start pirating again. Bree would have been quite content to spend the rest of her days just looking after their son but she is constantly loyal to Orla and supports her. Even if it is with a newborn strapped to her chest and a blaster on her hip.

Name: Breeana 'Bree' Rhatigan Door: Crown of Thorns Canon: Original Canon Point: Seven month after her wife gives birth to their first son Declan Age: 33 Appearance: Bree is 5ft 11" and mixed race. She is exceptionally strong and well built with practical muscle and a full set of washboard abs. Her hair is black and coily and she had deep brown eyes. Bree doesn't tend to wear a lot of makeup except for on special occasions. Visually, she reads very masculine and defaults to highly practical clothing choices like leather or vinyl that will allow her wife to pick up her location without announcing herself. History: A Very Brief History of Breeana Rhatigan nee Shannon > Born on a high gravity farm colony, Bree had a perfectly ordinary and pleasant upbringing as the oldest child of cattle farmers on a planet in the middle of nowhere. > At 19 she got into a huge fight with her family about not wanting to take on the family farm when she grew up and ran away from home. Because she was big and physically strong from years of fieldwork and labouring, Bree quickly found a niche in all things that required her to use her fists and not her brain. It was hard work for a girl in her teens but she managed well through sheer grit and perseverence. > Eventually she found her way in with a protection racket that were happy to have an amazon like Bree along for the ride. Wanting more, she started to shadow other members of the ship and learn how they did their roles. > It came to the time that Bree heard of a pair of smugglers (Known as the Rhatigan Smugglers) were looking for people to join their crew. She made to met with them and from the moment the interview started, she flirted relentlessly with the Captain Orla. This would lead to Orla's brother being delighted at her cheek and Orla's curiosity piqued at such a shamelessly open woman. Bree and Orla interested into a mutually beneficial sexual relationship a short while after that, with Bree taking the dominant role behind closed doors and Orla taking the submissive role. > It came to pass Bree was made First Mate. Not long after that they got married and started to plan to have their first child. Through mutinies, crimes and yes, even producing children, they have stuck together through thick and thin. Bree is currently seven months into parenthood after her wife's difficult pregnancy and is just infinitely glad that they're both safe and well. Personality: +Loyalty Bree is loyal to her wife and her family above all else. There is no cause in the whole universe that could cause her to betray Orla or their child Declan. She would do everything in her power to defend them and put their needs and wants above all others. This has cemented her life of crime, following her Captain and wife into the fold at all points, acting as her guard dog, visual deterrent and from time to time her meat shield. She would allow every bone in her body to be broken before she willingly allowed harm to come to those she cares for. -Indifferent to those who do not fall into her close circle of trust. Bree will not hesitate to harm, hinder or hostage those who will advance her cause or the cause of those that she cares for. She has committed all manner of crime and personal violence in her time as a smuggler and does not care to put other people's morals before her own gain. -Ruthless. There is no lengths that Bree will not go to in order to achieve her aims (Mostly supporting the aims of her wife, Orla). She takes little pleasure in harming people but that won't stop her. If there is an obstacle in her way she will remove it as swiftly and viciously as the job requires. She has a reputation in the crime circles for being Orla's attack dog and this is down to her willingness to play the part. -Opportunist "Why spend mine, when I can spend yours?" Bree had originally joined the Lonely Sidhe with the intention of milking the job for all the coin it had available and making a bunk for it. However, she then spotted Orla - the then First Mate - and spent her entire interview with the Rhatigan siblings flirting with her relentlessly. And that is the way that Bree has spent most of her life, hopping from one better option to the next and uncaring about the trail of desolation she leaves in her path. Powers and Abilities: Very Strong! That's about it. She's quite clever and adept at reading people, albeit not as good as her wife is. Inventory: (1) Neural Implant that allows her to activate her strap (1) Strap-on Harness - connects to her Neural Impant and allows her pleasure receptors to process the sensation (1) Dildo Bag - What is says on the label; a bad of dildos.
